Next destination: Ebro Delta

If you still haven’t decided on a destination for your next holiday, at EDYPRO we have decided to lend you a hand and make things very easy for you. We propose an exceptional destination: the Ebro Delta, one of the areas where you can enjoy agrotourism in its purest form. The richness of this land offers you unique landscapes and a wide range of activities that you cannot miss.

What to visit

Located in Tarragona, the Ebro Delta Natural Park, created in 1983 as a system for the preservation of natural systems, is a perfect place for your leisure time. Whether you are travelling as a couple or as a family (children can have a lot of fun while learning at the same time), all your expectations will be fulfilled in this destination. Take note because these are the basics to make your trip a success.

  • Endless walks. There is nothing like a good walk along the seashore to reconnect with nature. Punta del Fangar, one of the most unique places in the Delta, is located in the north and is a peninsula 7km long and 3km wide that juts out into the sea, making it the perfect setting for hiking. Trabucador Beach is an obligatory stop. It is an oasis of tranquillity from where you can observe the sea on both sides. There are 6.5km that you can walk or cycle along while you enjoy the warm waters of the Mediterranean.
  • Mouth of the Ebro. This unusual place deserves a special mention. With a length of 25 km from Amposta to the mouth itself, where we will find a unique landscape surrounded by great natural scenery and an abundance of rice fields. This place includes several protected natural spaces such as the Isla de Buda, Isla de San Antonio or El Garxal, and can even be visited on a cruise.
  • Its crops. It is impossible to ignore the majestic presence of the rice fields in this place. Everything revolves around rice in the Ebro Delta, one of the three places in Spain with Protected Designation of Origin (P.D.O.). The main varieties grown here are Bomba, J Sendra, Argila, Montsianell and Gleva. With semi-long and round grains, this rice is characterised by its unmistakable flavour and great uniformity in its cooking. There is no restaurant in the area that does not offer a wonderful rice dish on its daily menu. Rice fields have been the main protagonists of this landscape since the 17th century.
  • Route through its villages and markets. If you have a few extra days, we recommend a route through its most emblematic towns. From Deltebre, San Carles de la Ràpita, els Eucaliptus, Poble Nou del Delta, Riumar, Amposta or San Juan D’Enveija among others where you can contemplate the architecture and gastronomic richness of the area. Of all the markets you can find, special mention should be made of Tortosa market, built between 1884 and 1887, this building is one of the most emblematic in the city. Here you can find all the fresh seasonal produce, while you contemplate this modernist place, which stands above the river port on land reclaimed from the Ebro River.

What activities are not to be missed

Whether it’s along the mouth of the Ebro or along its route, enjoying unique sunsets, cruises in the Ebro Delta are an obligatory stop. But if the boats make you dizzy, you can always watch the sunset from land.  Its great variety of landscapes gives rise to more than 70 types of environments in which you can find all kinds of flora and fauna. It is impossible not to stop at the lagoons to watch the birds, herons, flamingos, gannets… There are different ornithological itineraries through the Delta.

If you prefer to increase your emotions and get your adrenaline pumping, you can take a kayak trip along the Ebro or enjoy watching or even practising kitesurfing on the Trabucador beach. There are also many routes to go on two pedals, bicycles are an ideal option to visit many of the places that we have advised you in the first section of this post.

If sport has given you an appetite, we recommend that you stop to enjoy the rich gastronomy of the area. There are countless restaurants where you can taste its star product, rice.

And to round off your getaway, EDYPRO also recommends a visit to some of its museums or a closer look at its traditions, such as a visit to the Món Natura Delta de l’Ebre centre, a place where you can learn about traditional activities such as fishing or find out about the current problems facing the Delta.

As we have already told you, the Ebro Delta will leave an indelible impression on your travel memory. Its unusual beaches, its small villages with their little markets, its horizons full of rice fields… Don’t think twice, you have a date with nature!
