PROBLEM<\/strong><\/p>\n

Increasingly, we are finding it difficult to grow crops because of the salinity of either the soil or the water. Salts inhibit the development of the root system and end up burning the absorbing hairs and secondary roots, and all this impairs the plants’ ability to develop.<\/p>\n

Two types of salts accumulate in agricultural soils:<\/p>\n

  1. Mineral salts from fertilisers<\/strong> which, due to the lack of cation exchange in the soil, are converted into primary forms and, as they are not assimilated
    \nby plants, accumulate in the soil in the form of toxic salts.<\/li>\n
  2. Toxic salts<\/strong> (sodium and chlorine ions) are ty\n

    pical for land that was previously seawater or irrigation water.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The droughts we have in the Mediterranean arc cause water degradation and increase soil salinity. This causes critical situations such as \u00a0the one shown in the images taken on 15 April in the southern part of the Region of Murcia.<\/p>\n

    Not only can you see the salt layer accumulating on the margins of the drip bulbs, but also symptoms of plant weakness:<\/p>\n
