Salts inhibit the development of the root system and end up burning the absorbing hairs and secondary roots, and all this impairs the plants&#8217; ability to develop.<\/p>\n<p>Two types of salts accumulate in agricultural soils:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Mineral salts from fertilisers<\/strong> which, due to the lack of cation exchange in the soil, are converted into primary forms and, as they are not assimilated<br \/>\nby plants, accumulate in the soil in the form of toxic salts.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Toxic salts<\/strong> (sodium and chlorine ions) are ty\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">pical for land that was previously seawater or irrigation water.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The droughts we have in the Mediterranean arc cause water degradation and increase soil salinity.
